PAWTUCKET – The city’s new streetlights, set to be installed beginning in mid-August, will bring brighter light to local streets and financial savings for city taxpayers.
Public Works Director Eric Earls said the city is working with Siemens on the project. The company will install LED lighting fixtures on all city streetlights.
In nearby communities where similar lights have been installed, residents have reported brighter, whiter light in their neighborhoods, but experts say extra brightness is just from having more consistent light focused downward instead of it escaping into the sky.
The city is working with the company on installation procedures, said Earls, “and we expect to begin installing the lights in the downtown area and will work outward from there through the rest of the city.”
The project is expected to be completed by January 2020.
