Rhode Island has established itself as a leader in the defense sector. The rapid growth of small, medium and large businesses in this sector has had a positive impact on our state’s economy and stimulated the continued need for highly educated and motivated professionals. Science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) education is needed so that the next generation can fill high-tech, high-wage, defense-related jobs.
One important aspect of STEAM education is to hold events that showcase careers in the defense sector. With this in mind, the Rhode Island National Guard is sponsoring an event called “RIse with S.T.E.A.M” on May 19 at the Quonset Air National Guard Base in North Kingstown. There, 250 Rhode Island high school students will go “behind the scenes” at the Rhode Island National Guard Open House Air Show.
